Our program focuses on strong fundamentals, basketball IQ, accountability, teamwork, disciplined play, and long-term player development.

What ages does Nova Hoops serve?

Final eligibility may depend on age, grade, and the rules used by individual tournament organizers.

What is travel basketball?

Travel basketball is designed for athletes who want structured practices, consistent development, competitive weekend tournaments, and opportunities to compete beyond a recreational basketball environment.

Where does Nova Hoops practice?

Practices are held primarily in local school gyms throughout the Temecula and Murrieta area. Outdoor courts may be used when necessary. Exact practice locations depend on gym availability and team placement.

Registration & Tryouts

How can my athlete join Nova Hoops?

Athletes can register for one of our scheduled tryouts through our Tryouts page. Families may also contact us regarding possible roster openings or supplemental evaluations.

When does Nova Hoops hold tryouts?

Fall/Winter Middle School tryouts are generally held in August. Spring/Summer Middle School and High School tryouts are generally held in February.

What happens during tryouts?

Athletes participate in skill work, competitive drills, and gameplay situations. Coaches evaluate more than scoring and athletic ability.

We consider effort, character, coachability, fundamentals, basketball IQ, decision-making, and how an athlete contributes within a team environment.

What if my athlete misses tryouts?

Contact us directly. If a team still has an available roster spot, we may be able to schedule a supplemental evaluation or invite the athlete to attend a practice.

Practices & Development

How often do teams practice?

Most teams practice twice per week. Practices generally last approximately 90–120 minutes, depending on the team and available gym time.

What skills do players develop?

Practices may include:

  • Ball handling, passing, shooting, finishing, and footwork
  • Individual and team defense
  • Basketball IQ and decision-making
  • Spacing, communication, and team concepts
  • Accountability, leadership, and preparation
What makes Nova Hoops different?

Nova Hoops maintains limited team rosters so coaches can properly teach, evaluate, and develop each athlete. Our coaches emphasize development, basketball IQ, discipline, defensive effort, teamwork, accountability, and learning to play the game correctly.

Can beginners play travel basketball?

Athletes come to Nova Hoops with different levels of experience. Team placement depends on skill, effort, coachability, developmental needs, and whether we have an appropriate team environment for the player.

Costs & Payments

What does the season fee include?

Season fees generally include:

  • Scheduled team practices
  • Tournament and league entry fees
  • Team uniforms and included program gear
  • Coaching and program expenses
  • Snipback game film and player statistics

Any additional expenses that are not included will be explained to families before registration.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available during registration. Families should review the payment schedule carefully before completing registration.

Does Nova Hoops offer fundraising opportunities?

Yes. Nova Hoops provides fundraising opportunities during the season. Most of the funds raised by an athlete are applied directly toward that athlete’s program costs.

Teams & Playing Time

How are players placed on teams?

Players are placed according to age or grade eligibility, skill level, position, coachability, development needs, and overall team fit. When an age group has multiple teams, those teams may compete in different divisions.

How many players are on each team?

We intentionally maintain limited rosters. Most Nova Hoops teams carry approximately eight or nine players, although roster size may vary depending on the team’s needs.

Is playing time guaranteed?

Playing time is earned rather than guaranteed. Coaches consider practice performance, preparation, effort, attitude, skill, decision-making, defensive execution, and how an athlete contributes as a teammate.

Can players participate on another basketball team?

Families should discuss outside team commitments with the coach before joining. Nova Hoops expects players to attend team practices and tournaments consistently and communicate about unavoidable conflicts in advance.
